Black Ops 7 Ranked Play: Rules, Modes, Cash Matches

By DuelX Competitive Team · 9/13/2026

Black Ops 7 ranked play means competitive BO7 run under a fixed, published ruleset — CDL settings, a locked map pool, and a result that sticks to your record — instead of whatever a public lobby decides to be that night. On DuelX that comes in two forms: free XP matches that move your level and your seasonal ladder standing, and cash matches where both sides stake an entry fee and the winner takes the whole pot.

Both run on the same rulesets, the same score reporting and the same dispute process. The only thing that changes between them is whether there's money sitting in escrow.

What counts as ranked play in Black Ops 7?

Ranked play is any match where the settings are locked in before you load in and the result counts afterwards. Every Black Ops 7 match on DuelX is posted with a mode, a team size, a platform, a region and a skill level attached, so you know exactly what you're accepting before you accept it.

Skill level is picked by whoever posts the match — all, novice, amateur or pro — which means you're choosing your bracket rather than getting sorted into one by a hidden number. Team sizes on BO7 run 1v1 through 4v4, though each mode has its own allowed sizes. Platform is set per match and covers PlayStation, Xbox, PC and cross-play, and your Activision ID has to be on your profile before anything can start.

The match itself moves through a fixed set of states: open, accepted, in progress, reporting, then completed — or disputed, if the two reports don't agree. Nothing about that flow changes because you staked money on it.

Which modes can you play ranked on BO7?

Five: Search & Destroy, Hardpoint, Overload, Gunfight and Kill Race. Each one has its own ruleset published on the BO7 rules page, and each one has its own allowed team sizes.

  • Search & Destroy — 3v3 and 4v4 only, run on CDL Search and Destroy with the rules unlocked so you can apply the required changes
  • Hardpoint — 1v1 up to 4v4, run on CDL Hardpoint
  • Overload — 1v1 up to 4v4, run on the default Overload mode with a list of required setting changes
  • Gunfight — 2v2 only, with no restricted items and no host-side changes needed
  • Kill Race — 1v1 up to 4v4, played in Quick Play, where the team with the most combined eliminations wins

If you've only ever played BO7 in matchmaking, Gunfight and Kill Race are the softest entry points. Gunfight needs zero setup from the host, and Kill Race doesn't ask you to learn a new map callout list before you can be useful.

What are the BO7 map pools?

They're fixed per mode and published before you enter, so nobody gets to argue about the map after they've lost on it. The pools are set on the ruleset, not chosen in the lobby.

  • Search & Destroy — Den, Scar, Raid, Fringe, Gridlock, Plaza
  • Hardpoint — Colossus, Den, Gridlock, Sake, Scar
  • Overload — Den, Exposure, Scar
  • Gunfight — Abyss, Cortex, Flagship, Nexus, Odysseus, Onsen, Paranoia, Torque, Yakei

Den, Scar and Gridlock carry across multiple modes, so if you're going to grind one map's timings, start there. Check the rules page for the current pool before you post — pools are versioned and can change between ruleset revisions.

What settings do you change before a ranked BO7 match?

The host applies the mode's required changes, and both sides confirm before the first round. Getting this wrong is the single most common reason a match gets replayed or goes to a ticket.

Across the objective modes, scorestreaks are off — that's Search & Destroy, Hardpoint and Overload. Kill Race is the exception: Scout Pulse, UAV, Counter UAV and HARP are the four allowed there. Killcams and team assignment stay on for Search & Destroy and Hardpoint, S&D runs a five-second equipment delay with automatic doors on, and Hardpoint runs a three-second respawn delay with automatic doors off and callout pings off.

Overload has the longest checklist: scorestreaks off, automatic doors off, a ten-second scorestreak delay, zero equipment protection, battle chatter off, dynamic map elements off, weapon mounting off, input swap off, callout pings off, carrier personal radar off, sudden death H.A.R.P off, a 3.5-second respawn delay, a one-second suicide respawn delay, team assignment on and friendly fire on. Read it off the rules page rather than from memory.

On hosting: you rehost and reset the rules after each map, and the non-hosting team picks its starting side. In a series, the last map is hosted by the team with the most combined rounds, and if that's tied it goes to whoever hosted map one.

How do you play Black Ops 7 ranked play for money?

You post or accept a match with an entry fee on it, both sides' entries go into escrow the moment the match is accepted, and the winner receives the pot. Head to BO7 cash matches to see what's open.

The fee is charged at entry, not at payout: it's 10% of your entry fee or $0.25, whichever is larger. What's left of your entry goes into the pot, and the winner receives 100% of the combined pot with nothing taken out at the end. On a $10 entry that's $1 charged and $9 into the pot from each side, so the winner collects $18. On a $1 entry the flat floor applies instead — $0.25 charged, $0.75 in, $1.50 to the winner.

Paid entry depends on where you are, and the platform runs an eligibility check for you rather than making you work it out. Where paid play isn't available, XP matches use the identical rulesets with no entry fee. There's more on the escrow and payout mechanics in our guide to how money matches work.

How is the winner decided if both players report a win?

Both sides report independently, and if the two reports conflict the match goes to an automatic dispute. From there both players upload evidence and a moderator rules on it — the escrow stays locked until that decision lands.

Which is why proof rules matter more than they look. All proof has to be video, not screenshots. The full scoreboard with gamertags and match info needs to be readable in frame, console DVR is the expected capture method, and messages from Xbox, PSN, Twitter or Skype don't count as evidence of anything.

There's a related trap on Activision IDs: yours has to match exactly, including the numeric tag after the hash. A mismatched ID on the match details gets treated as a no-show — though if the match gets played to completion on the wrong ID anyway, the outcome stands.

What happens if your opponent doesn't show?

You get a window to join or host, and if they burn it you claim the no-show and the escrow comes back. On a live match that's 10 minutes from the scheduled time, after which you click "no show" and then "request an administrator" in match chat — the admin can grant extra time at their discretion, and failing to use it forfeits the map or the match.

Ticket-support matches work the same way on timing — 10 minutes to join or host, 5 minutes between maps — but you carry the burden of proof. You need at least five minutes of video from minutes 5 through 10 of the wait, showing your invite and join attempts with on-screen timestamps. Start recording at minute five, not at minute nine.

Do you have to stream your BO7 matches?

On live supported matches, yes — every match, with past broadcasts enabled. On ticket support matches it's every PC player who has to stream with past broadcasts on before the match starts.

Only Twitch, YouTube, Kick and Facebook count; TikTok isn't eligible. Turn the stream off and back on after you change the past broadcasts setting so it actually saves, and leave the VOD up for at least 24 hours after you finish. If your opponent can't produce stream proof before the start, that's treated as a no-show, and both teams should verify game and comms audio before completing the match — a fully completed map won't be replayed over a stream audio problem.

How do BO7 wins move your ranking?

Wins award XP and ladder points, and the ladders run per game and reset each season. That's true whether the match had an entry fee on it or not, so an XP match still moves your standing.

Your BO7 record and level live on your profile, and the seasonal ladders are where they turn into a placement against everyone else playing the same game. If you'd rather chase a bracket than a ladder position, tournaments run on the same rulesets with a check-in step and a published series length.

How do you get started with BO7 ranked play?

Post a free XP match in the mode you already know, with the rules page open on a second screen, and get the host settings right once. Everything after that is the same flow with an entry fee attached — and the FAQ covers the account setup you'll need before your first cash match.

Frequently asked questions

Can you play Black Ops 7 cash matches on PC?
Yes. BO7 supports PlayStation, Xbox, PC and cross-play, and platform is set per match. If a match is posted as PC Players Not Allowed and a PC player accepts it anyway, it should be cancelled immediately, though if it gets played out the outcome stands regardless of platform.
Why can't you post a 1v1 Search & Destroy match on BO7?
S&D on BO7 is restricted to 3v3 and 4v4, so smaller team sizes aren't offered for it. If you want a 1v1, Hardpoint, Overload and Kill Race all run at that size, and Gunfight runs 2v2.
Who picks the starting side in a BO7 Search & Destroy match?
The non-hosting team picks its starting side. The host also has to rehost and reset the rules after each map, so the settings check isn't a one-time job in a series.
What happens if someone joins your Kill Race lobby mid-match?
Both players have to leave and restart immediately. Playing on with someone who dropped into a match already in progress isn't a valid result.
Does lag get a BO7 Kill Race replayed?
Individual lag on dedicated servers won't earn a cancel or a replay. Full-lobby lag can, but only with multi-perspective proof, and a disconnect after 15 seconds needs valid proof of the DC while the remaining players finish the game out.
How much video proof does a BO7 no-show ticket need?
At least five minutes of video covering minutes 5 through 10 of your wait. It has to show your invite and join attempts with on-screen timestamps, so start the capture at minute five rather than at the end of the window.
